Courts 4 Kids Wins Awards

Courts 4 Kids, a collaboration between the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation, the Carmelo Anthony Foundation and the City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Program has received the New York State Recreation & Park Society’s 2010 Special Event Class 3 Award.

The Courts 4 Kids Program that renovates inner city basketball courts provides city youth the opportunity to showcase their hard earned skills. By providing a safe place in their neighborhood – regardless of their socio-economic status, the program allows Central New York youth the chance to play basketball every day and open the window for many of them to play the game in college, and possibly beyond. Both SU men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim and 2003 standout Carmelo Anthony recognize this need and stand behind their mission to offer opportunities to disadvantaged kids in the City to be successful – both on the court and in life!

Without the Courts 4 Kids program and the support of corporate sponsors such as Time Warner Cable and TV the Syracuse City Parks Department would not be able to maintain its many basketball courts that are in dire need of rehabilitation.

Award winners will be honored at the New York State Recreation and Park Society’s Awards Luncheon Ceremony on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Turning Stone Resort, Verona, NY.
