Courts4Kids founder: Jim Boeheim and New York Knicks star: Carmelo Anthony has partnered with the City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Programs, in conjunction with Time Warner Cable and TVOne to refurbish and/or completely rebuild three sites in the Syracuse, New York area.

This program is designed to encourage and help kids in the disadvantaged socioeconomic areas of Syracuse, New York. Coach Boeheim, Carmelo Anthony, Time Warner Cable, and TVOne will organize a grand opening of these chosen sites with a tournament to promote drug free and healthy living.

Reposted from 9WSYR.com - Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Children in Syracuse now have a new place to play basketball, thanks in part to Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and former SU hoops star Carmelo Anthony.

The grand opening for the new court at Schiller Park, on Syracuse's North Side, was held Friday. It was a beneficiary of the "Court for Kids" project, which is funded through both Boeheim and Anthony's foundations.

New basketball courts are built - or old ones are refurbished - with the simple goal of giving kids a better place to play.

"We wanted to help the community," said Boeheim. "It's a small way to give the kids some courts that are nice, kids would like to go and play at."

This is the second park to benefit from Boeheim and Anthony's foundations. Last year, the foundation renovated two basketball courts at Wilson Park. The plan is to open one or two more every year. "Our foundation is trying to get this thing going in our area," said Boeheim.

Landmasters will design and donate a monument back to the kids and residents of the city of Syracuse.
