Get the Ball Rolling
At the end of the Spring 2010 semester at Syracuse University, Marc Lomasky, Founder of the Get On The Ball Event at SU and his Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity Brothers hosted the first annual philanthropic event for the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. For one full week, the brothers of ZBT rolled a 6-foot inflatable ball around the SU campus, asking fellow students and faculty to sign it. Local businesses sponsored the event and their logos adorned the ball. With each signature signed on the ball, the sponsors pledged a small donation (1-10 cents per signature), raising money for the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. The goal of the event and rolling the ball around campus was achieved, as it not only raised money, but also raised a great awareness of the Foundation around campus.
To kick off the event, Coach Jim Boeheim met with the ZBT brothers and was the first to sign the ball. This raised campus spirit and got all the students and faculty excited to participate in a great cause. Once Coach Boeheim signed the ball, word of the event got around and everyone was eager to get involved. The Syracuse University community came together, as they joined Coach Boeheim in signing the ball. Get On The Ball was a huge success, as more than 2,000 signatures were collected and money was raised for the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. The organizers hope to make Get On The Ball an even bigger success in future years!
