The Hardwood Club was started when Roy Danforth was the head basketball coach. Bi-laws complying with the athletic department and NCAA were written. Officer and responsibilities were defined. The Club's main function was to raise additional dollars to be used at the discretion of the athletic director to aid in recruiting student athletes. In time when the Orange Club was formed money could be designated to the sport of choice but the use of the money much broader again at the discretion of the athletic director.
Our involvement includes organizing and running the Hardwood Club dinner each year preceding their departure for the Big East Tournament. Proceeds from this dinner were put into a sholarshio fund. In 2001 this money was earmarked for the Conrad McCrae Scholarship fund. McCrae in his honor, He was in the class of '93. The job program under the compliance office overseeing is a major program to help the student-athletes earn money while attending summer school. The annual alumni game or weekend is run by the Hardwood Club.
It's mission is simple. Give the staff and players the tools needed to maintain the winning tradition of S.U. basketball within the confines of the NCAA rules.
The 39th annual Syracuse University Men’s Basketball Hardwood Banquet, sponsored by TK99, will be held on Sunday, March 7 at the OnCenter in Syracuse. Tickets are $75 per person and $750 per table of 10. Proceeds benefit the Conrad McRae Endowed Men’s Basketball Scholarship and the men’s basketball job program.
